Yea, they did for economic reasons as well as to ensure that they don't receive "rights" I believe. They weren't able to understand that agrarianism and the need for slaves would have faded away as technology continues to evolve. Lincoln had plans to resettle the African dispora in Africa somewhere but the South wanted to keep them in America for economic reasons, Lincoln was assassinated by some southerner before he was able to go forward with his plan of recolonization.

The south was retarded honestly, that war could have been avoided. Lincoln also could have handled the crisis much much better. It was a fuck up on both sides for why it developed into Civil War.
