As dumb as this sounds, it's the truth. If she had darker skin and dark brown eyes she would have been a one hit wonder like all of her other peers in the mid 2000's that lacked talent.

All people talked about back then was her "exotic" light eyes and her "exotic" islandy ways. Convince me otherwise, but since the 2000s if the "black" celeb isn't outright biracial, then she has to have some distinct eurocentric feature to make it and STAY famous with black people. So many are in denial of this, so I know I will get crap for this post. Groan away...




I was grown in 2006 and hated that pon de replay song. And people were mentioning her eyes a lot back then. (Anybody remember when she was a cover girl and the focus for her ad campaign was all about her eyes lol?)

Agreed, but her songs are good.

But most fame has less to do with aesthetic appeal and more to do with IRL relationships. maybe like a 30/70. Look at how most women blew up. Knowing or dating a exec like lady gaga, beyonce etc. Same with rhi. Todays time hiphop is more about what gang your in but essentially its the same. Who you know.

The few non garbo artists that have ability usually last longer over the group of trash who got on the same way bc their ability is highlighted over the overwhelming pool of trash. If fame was an equal playing field based on effort and talent youd start to see high turnovers and a lot more rhiannas. But its not. Its a club of who knows who and the person best at making relationships is usually the ones who stay the longest. Good looking dosent really equal fame in the music industry as models dont really make it either.

If looks matter it would probably have to do with leverage over the process. I wouldnt doubt that rhi was some sort of escort for high profile men early in the career. So maybe u do have a point. But it probably would have still worked out either way due to connections and a decent talent. Beyoncé for reference dosent really look as good. Same with lady gaga. Its a factor for sure though
