The images of Devins' corpse became widely shared on social media such as Instagram and Twitter.[32] They gained traction on the website 4chan with hundreds of posts praising Clark for committing "another 4chan murder" and mocking Devins' previous usage and "e-girl" image.[5][32][11][e] Users on incels.is and 8chan were also celebratory.[30][24] #ripbianca—which briefly trended on Twitter[5]—was used to discuss the murder's relation to similar stories and women's fear of rejecting men; #ectsy and #pinkcloudsforbianca was used to combat the photos of her being shared.[15][33][34] Accounts promising to post images of Devins' murder in exchange for likes and follows, and illegitimate fund-raising sites sprang up to capitalize on her name and death.[34]
The initial online discovery was clouded by misinformation, false claims—such as Clark having uploaded his video[22]—and rumors were spread by users.[1][5][20][f] Tweets from prominent Twitter users—one of which was shared over 16,000 times—falsely identified Clark as an incel.[11][g] Clark was often portrayed as a stalker, who pursued Devins and murdered her after she declined sexual advances.[33] Speculation on the crime's nature was "rampant"; users on YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit examined Devins' history and sought to explain the murder.[18][19]
