he commited the crime of "Lesão Corporal" - physical injuries in brazilian portuguese, in the modality of 'serious' physical injuries (that have lasting effects). probably also comitted the crime of "grave ameaça" - "grave threatening" as well

both have their penalties increased because he commited it against a partner. I'd say he could get up to 8 years of jail time.
