Just use minimal drugs and your original plan is good but you’ll have to deal with stuff like high BP and you need drugs to counteract with that.

You do realize that these drugs have side effects of their own, right? Of course you can treat any drug's side effects with another drug and then treat that drug's side effects with another one and so on... In other words, no, you can't necessarily avoid all side effects without possibly creating new side effects.
