Essentially, iOS 16.5 removed the telltale absence of the Delivered badge. Before that update, if someone blocked you, your iMessage would either never display “Delivered” (staying in a pending state and possibly eventually turning green as an SMS). Many iPhone users used to treat the missing Delivered notification as a sign of being blocked. Now, however, that clue has been intentionally erased in modern iOS. Apple-related publications summarize it clearly: If you’ve updated to iOS 16.5 or later, you’ll still see the “Delivered” notification beneath the last text you sent, even if you’re blocked . This change carried through iOS 17 and continues in iOS 18 beta, so it’s not brand-new to the beta – it’s the expected behavior since that earlier update.
