Could it be, because there were only 50 000 people in the whole area of Finland in year 1200 when the first recordings were made? Before 1600s there wasn't pretty much any cities even, just sparse populations. So of course we can't have the similar type of history as something like Roman Empire who had 80 million in ancient times. There was under a million people here in year 1810.
