Even if Russia managed to somehow achieve complete victory tomorrow, it would still be left with vast swathes of land occupied by a very hostile population to police. On top of having to shoulder the cost of rebuilding. The russian state will be embroiled in Ukraine for decades to come, while its economy continue to bleed from a thousand cuts. It will not be a threat to NATO any time soon, as long as the alliance stick together.
The whole thing was a geopolitical disaster for Putin the very day he decided to invade, regardless of the military outcome. Every single day Ukraine still stands only make matters even worst for him.
Always keep in mind that even in case of a complete russian victory, it would just bring us back to the pre-2014 situation, when Ukraine was still aligned with Moscow. But at what cost for Russia ? The US/NATO didn't fire a single shot to pull Ukraine out of its orbit. While it's taking everything Moscow has to bring it back in... and even that hasn't been sufficient so far.
