To make it short: being atheist sucks. You have no God, your life is meaningless, if there is a hell, you will end up 100% there, so it's too risky.
And all my suffering on earth was for naught.

So let's find the real religion:

-Islam is pretty legit, but has some huge flaws, like that our prophet was into 6 year old girls. Can't ignore that.

-Christianity is also nice, but we can't be sure if the Bible really comes from Jesus or just some random corrupt church people.

-I wanted to be jew a few years ago, but it takes years to become jew. Imagine becoming jew after years and then be like "ahem nah, this isn't what I searched for"

-Buddhism is shit
-I am Definetely not gonna pray to cows

To answer your question OP, you don't need religion to tell you how to worship god or which gods to worship because most religions are too concerned with how you should live your personal life.

Whether you believe in God or whatever, a lot of religions would still deem you as a heathen or infidel if you don't follow their exact doctrine.

Just live a righteous life (no degeneracy, help others when you can) and believe that if there is a God or gods that they too are righteous and have mercy and integrity. Believe that they will not torture you for all eternity just because you didn't believe in a bunch of storybooks written by men.

If God is righteous he will not judge you by what religion you follow but by your deeds and character. And if he does condemn you to hell because you did not worship him or you worshiped the wrong way then he is not God but the devil in disguise.

And it's obvious that most of humanity who reach a healthy adulthood have a fully controllable free will to do as they please, be it right or good. I think the whole made in the image of God thing can be interpreted in many ways tbh, it doesn't necessarily have to define to only the faulty human characteristics.

In terms of Adam and Eve, God wanted man to be pure and innocent, by choosing to follow God's will and commandments, by their own free will. In order to do this Eve/Adam had to be tempted to sin. Eden is essentially a stop gap to heaven, so the devil was allowed in the garden to test them, to see if they would be worthy of Paradise, and therefore eternal life.

He wanted beings that appreciated him for him and not robots imo, Let's be honest here a God would get pretty bored with obedient eternally good robots who could not choose for themselves. There would be literally no point to his existence.

In terms of animals, since animals were made below man it's kind of expected of them to act even worse than us, such as with the video above.
