You can easily check for blood vessels by just pulling ~0.1ml back and seeing if any blood goes into the syringe, I do it when I inject melanotan-2. The first time I accidentally injected in a vein I got the effects instantly, almost vomited 2 min after injection. Been doing this ever since.

I know that aspirating with the needle is not reliable.

When you pull the syringe button back, you shift the tip by ~1mm or less, but this is enough to actually get into the vessel as soon as you start injecting.
