The idea that you shouldn't care about what anyone thinks about you, is utter cope. Even though I have copious amounts of self love for myself (looks excluded), it has done me no good. External validation is just as important if not even more so. Sure I value myself as a person, but that doesn't get me friends or a girlfriend.
Also anyone who says that getting a partner doesn't improve your life, is either normfag in a relationship who takes what he has for granted, or an incel in denial who tries to cope by pretending that he's not missing out on anything. It's actually insane how much getting constant love and affection from the opposite sex boosts your self esteem. You literally feel like you own the world. Imagine waking up everyday, knowing that a girl chose YOU and not anyone else. You feel wanted, you feel loved, you feel chosen, you feel like you BELONG.
Sure my self love has kept me grounded. Im not depressed, nor am I socially awkward. But what's the point if I will be hated by almost everyone else.
TLDR: Self love is cope, external validation is more important
