They say they build phone cameras to make them do group selfies but now that think about it...you don't see people taking group selfies anymore.

Wide angle lenses are really about maximizing FOV to collect more data (since your phone is spying you and your surroundings through the camera at all times.) Smart phones primary function is to collect data from you, not to be useful to the person who owns it.
