i have an overbite. Orthodontist wants to project lower jaw and make upper jaw less projected using braces and rubber bands. I have a projected maxilla will this recess it? I don’t really know much about all of this

Only case in which your maxilla can be recessed via orthodontics is if they work on you with a narrow palate or extract your premollars.

Always act for expansion and protraction rather than extraction and retraction(this is what recesses you)
yes it probably will make it look a bit less prominent due to the teeth going back, still good to do tho for a healthier bite! please mark my answer as a solution by clicking the circle to the right👍

You can't recess your bones once they're in place, you'll be alright, what he's suggesting is pretty standard medically.

I was told that if I didn’t wear the bands they would have to remove teeth, and was also told that this only moves my teeth, both my upper and lower jaw what do you think. I can also send the xrays etc

If you have an overbite the only think that should be moving is your mandible.

Is that positive or negative in terms of alignment with the upper jaw
Positive. When you have an overbite the goal is to bring your mandible foward.

Makes sense. For me my teeth are already in alignment due to subconsciously jutting all my life (front teeth aligned) so I don’t have a visible overbite and my mandible is also developed it’s just that when I align my molars I am forced to recess my lower jaw significantly

I will be getting braces soon- within the next month or so. (I am not OP.) Could you please explain more of what this means so I can tell this to my ortho.
