Let's face it. I appreciate the movie Shang Chi. But Simu Liu fits more into the category of awkwardly funny and goofy (but of course also attractive) Paul Rudd Ant-Man and Star Lord Chris Pratt type of guys. And that was Marvel's intention: to cast an approachable and down-to-earth asian guy. Marvel knew what they were looking for. They were NOT looking for a very attractive Asian actor, period. There is no cultural misunderstanding here. If they advertise they were looking for one, they were Lying.

Paul Rudd and Chris Pratt are AVERAGE white dude (in terms of facial feature). Simu Liu is also an average Asian guy (in terms of facial feature only. There is no denying that Simu is attractive. But in terms of facial features alone, he is average). He is not handsome nor is he ugly. Don't get me wrong. This definitely helps with average Asian male attraction because, previoulsy, average Asian man wasn't even considered attractive to start with (but this also begs the question: has the movie REALLY made Simu attractive? Conclusion:

Attraction is not something that can be forced or voluntarily willed. Before you know it, you're already attracted to it and hooked. Attraction is something that must be cultivated and evoked out of people. It is not enough to put an Asian guy on screen and tell people he is sexy and then naively believe people will buy into the idea that he is attractive simply because he is on screen---- this is not cultivation and seduction; this is political correctness at its worst: pure voluntarism. By that logic, we could put Bobby Lee on ALL movies to play romantic lead and heroes, forcing people to watch it countless times with the expectation that they will eventually think he is attractive because he is the only guy they can see on screen. People will feel cheated.

The problem is they don't find Asian attractive because they haven't seen enough ATTRACTIVE Asians, period. Asian girls in Asia find white guys attractive NOT because they have seen a lot of average white guy on screen but because they have seen a lot of handsome white guy on screen----the average white guy get the benefit because the attractive ones set the tone of beauty standard for all of them. And we accept them not because we get brainwashed but because those actors and actresses were indeed handsome and beautiful. They are not good-looking because they are white. The key is to make them think the same: this is EXACTLY what Hollywood does to the rest of the world---they didn't create specific beauty standard out of nothing that caters to different regional markets, which is impossible because beauty cannot be forced upon. They export what they themselves consider to be handsome and beautiful directly. And we accept them not because we get brainwashed but because those actors and actresses were indeed handsome and beautiful. They are not good-looking because they are white. They are good-looking because we get hooked. Our actors can do the same if given the same amount of media exposure, that is, if they are already really attractive in the first place.

The other points you made were good but this one is iffy, asian girls in asia also know that most of the white males they would see in real life in a western country would be ugly or average at best.
