I am a short man. I stand a towering 5'5 whilst barefoot, and my entire life, I have never been allowed to forget my stature. I was born short and will die short.
However, there is an extremely perplexing precedence given to the acceptance of overweight people in today's society. Fat-shaming has become a stigmatized and inappropriate practice. The fat acceptance/body positivity movement has national acclaim with an astonishing number of followers. It has become recognized that, at least in public, it is not okay to disparage fat people.
So then, where is the support for short men? Why is my height -- which I have no control over -- allowed to be joked about in popular culture while the overweight, who (barring a very rare medical condition,) are given a so much support from people around the globe?
Ideally, society would realize it's shitty to demonize either, but if there's only enough support for one party, it should be geared towards short men and taller women.
