I would be approaching people in grades above mine as a freshman, do you think I will succeed?

How many women do you think are dating or hooking up with random guys approaching them on the street?? Most people meet via online dating or social circles ; if you are gonna cold approach do it at bars/clubs at least the women there are more likely to be looking for something and bare minimum give you a convo.

Yeah it depends , in my experience on Hinge you get a higher percentage of women looking for LTR , whereas Tinder is more hookup heavy but agree dating apps are terrible for meeting high quality women. Importantly , I forgot to mention you should approach any women anywhere if you are getting strong IOIs , especially if its a looksmaxx and within your phenotype , its just fully cold approaching no matter the factors is cringe and a lottery ticket for 95% of us.
