Should I ditch my retainer?

Im 16 with a narrow palate. My ortho, instead of expanding, turned my bottom teeth inward and locked my upper teeth into their narrow state. Im pretty recessed, and am wondering if continueing to wear my invisilgn-style retainer is part of the problem. I know at 16 my maxilla is mostly done growing but do you think its beneficial to stop wearing my retainer now that i have mostly fixed my tongue posture? Lmk

I would heavily consider going to a second ortho opinion for expansion through MARPE or other expansion methods; try to find an ortho that frequently does these expansion procedures and state explicitly that you're interested in expansion when you go see the doctor

I would still wear your retainer because, if not, your teeth will shift very easily, especially in your narrow mouth; your retainer should not stop natural growth in your face

Ive been through the whole expansion thing the orthos in portland are fucking scam artists charging 15 bands for expansion. From what ive seen it seems like retainers do prevent some jaw growth, so im just hella lost on what to do. Ive been without my retainer for the past couple days and my upper teeth are being pushed out

Yeah, unfortunately, that's just the American healthcare system. If it's a genuine problem where you have trouble breathing and sleeping, then insurance can maybe cover a MARPE or possibly a double jaw surgery

At this stage, you should probably still wear your retainer. Even if it may "prevent some jaw growth" at this stage it is too late, and any growth is most likely insignificant at your age, but you could try if you really want to.

Just know that it will set back months, if not a year or more, of progress in your Invisalign treatment.

If you aren't in a financial position to get treatment, then take it as motivation to get money and pay for these procedures later in the future, as they can be corrected at basically any age as long as you aren't old asf
