Should I follow dermatologist's advice?

I had the impression that my hair was thinning, so I signed up for an appointment with a dermatologist. This time I followed the lower resistance line and chose the refunded doctor. He didn't really listen to the potential causes (long-term caloric deficit, macro change, change of supplements, frequent use of warm air), he just wrote a prescription quickly and then made sure that the thinning was actually occurring. He decided that it did occur and recommended that a drug with a 5% concentration of minoxidil be purchased. I refrained from buying because of the potential side effects. Should I listen to him, ignore it, or maybe combine the minoxidil with the derma roller? A couple of days ago I started following Rob's protocol (perfecthairhealth.com) without the use of finasteride, and I think that should be enough for now. What do you think guys?
