Should I get a fade (no pics)

I have a long skull that’s narrow kind of like germans/nordics. I’m currently on a number 3 buzzcut all around but I’m thinking of doing a fade which is very popular for my age.
Should I do like a 2 on top and 1 on sides? I once went bald willingly and I looked like a lightbulb so I don’t know if I should just grow out my hair.
