I'm 16 years old, and since I was a child I've had a problem where the sides of my tongue get irritated and injured by my teeth. And When I try to do mewing, my teeth seem to bite down on the sides of my tongue, which makes it uncomfortable.
Because of this, I'm planning to visit an orthodontist soon.
Do you think an orthodontist might recommend a palate expander in a case like this? What are the benefits of a palate expander, and can it help improve facial symmetry?
Also, if I do get a palate expander, is it common to get braces afterward once the expansion treatment is finished?
