should i get perm? my hair is ultra straight.

i have extremely straight black hair, the only good thing i have is that its extremely thick but this means to style it i often have to use a ton of product or let oil buildup in my hair for few days (which is kinda disgusting thinking about it). and when i say a perm im talking a very loose one. im talking to try and achieve waviness like o'pry or cavill.

so i guess my question is really, whats the best hair texture?
and
if i should get a perm what size or colour rod should i get?

probably go for the jumbo black rod, they're usually 1.25 inches and go up to 1.5
