i have no idea why sunnis act like the prophet didn't allow it and like it has no basis in islam, even for a temporary time as they say

you have no right to call it a 'game' if allah and his messenger temporarily permitted it,

all muslims unanimously agree that rasoolallah sactioned it at some point, also even some early sunni scholars such as ibn jurayj permitted it based on the fact that some sahaba believed in its permissibility like ibn abbas for example
