Should I return my phone to the guy who gave me it?

This guy gave me his old iPhone cos my phone broke, but the battery health is 76% and the battery drains quickly

I was gonna pay him something as a gesture, but now I realised the battery is shit I don’t really wanna pay for it. I could just buy one

Do I give it back or just mention the battery is shit?
