I was thinking just HT and Minoxidil. The fin has side-effects so I'm not sure about that

Your HT doctor will tell you the same thing I'm going to tell you now

There's no saving your hair without taking finasteride.

Hair seems quite far gone tbh. Nonetheless though, do everything in your power to restore your hair, you really don't want to end up completely bald.

Doesn't fin cause ed or some shit? Is HT + minoxidil cope?

Keep it short until you get some regrowth or undergo HT

@Stef43 Who's the ugly bald guy in the pic you posted?

yea it can. happens to only 1% of the users iirc. you need to do bloodwork beforehand. talk with your doc about it.

In the clinical trials for FDA approval it caused ED in about 1.7% of men compared to about 1.2% placebo. The modern reporting of side effects is likely a combination of real side effects and a "nocebo" effect where if you are covinced you're going to get side effects you will get them. It slows the process of balding, most of the time stopping it completely, and about half of the time regrowing "lost hair" in the first few years. Sometimes it's not enough to stop your balding entirely though. If it doesn't work there are other anti-androgens like dutasteride or RU58841 that have the potential to cause similar good outcomes for your hair. But Finasteride has the most data on human safety and effectiveness.

Minoxidil does not stop the process of balding it makes your hair grow faster and thicker so it appears not to be balding. It can also open up hairs that were almost dead and make them start growing again. But over time it will stop working because it doesn't address the root cause of balding.

The treatments are not interchangeable either so if you do minoxidil for 3 years and decide to switch to fin, you will lose everything you gained from minoxidil and also everything you would have lost without minoxidil.

That's why even though it's easier to start minoxidil first because it's over the counter, you really should start with finasteride.

For the hair transplant, how that works is they take hairs from the back and side of your head that are resistant to balding and surgically implant them on top of your head. So if you can imagine only doing HT + minoxidil, in the long run, if you were meant to go horseshoe bald you will end up with a Joe Biden hairline (see below).

If you stop balding/regrow on finasteride, the amount of natural scalp hair will be stable and you can surgically correct the cosmetic appearance of it by advancing the hairline with a hair transplant.

You can try fin and hop off if you see sides, I just 2 days ago and that's what I'll do

That's a legit answer. Thank you.

You gonna see sides that soon? Did you have ed?

No, not that soon, probably after weeks or months.
My plan is
- taking fin and see what happenes
- if sides reducing fin dosage or doing any other day
- if sides persist stop and either try ru or go straight to hairsystem

If I take it for a small period and see those sides. Is it possible for sides to be permanent?
Ru is some scary shit messes with the heart afaik.

I should also add

Finasteride is also used to treat a disease called Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (Enlarged Prostate) in a much higher dose (5mg vs 1mg). If you decide to get on it, this 5mg version is much cheaper than the 1mg version. People will get that and quarter it to get 1.25mg per dose, much cheaper than the 1mg pills.

I believe at 5mg the rate of sides is roughly 5%. In those cases doctors will often prescribe Cialis alongside finasteride and both will be covered by insurance. Cialis itself has been shown to be beneficial for BPH so sometimes they even prescribe 1mg fin daily + 5mg daily Cialis.

So if you do get some side effects there are some ways to treat it including adding in cialis and lowering the daily dose of finasteride from 1mg to 0.5mg or 0.25mg.

The DHT inhibition curve suggests that 0.5mg & 0.25mg per day doses would also be effective at treating hair loss if you experience negative side effects from 1-1.25mg daily finasteride.

But you can keep it for longer right? Say he gets a hair transplant now and doesn’t take fin, after say 3-4 years when it’s receded behind the transplanted area he can use up his donor area and fill in the newly receded area. Then after another 3-4 years if he has no more extra donor area he can shave it off and be bald, which he would have been anyway? He just got an extra 6-8 years with a full head of hair

Hair transplants, both FUE and FUT ones leave permanent scarring so you will either have a strip scar or dot scars on your head for life. Getting a hair transplant means committing to wearing your head with hair for life.

FUE scars

If you wanted to do something like this then sticking to FUE surgery and then getting micropigmentation done later could be a viable option for what you want to do.

However it's probably best to just try finasteride and your HT doctor will tell you the same thing. Taking fin is way cheaper in the long run that repeated hair transplant surgeries. There's an aftercare protocol to them and you need to go bald during and after the surgery, so say you get 2-3 surgeries, that's 2-3 years with subpar hair quality over that 10 years or whatever.

Lol I would rather die than take fin tbh
And I just need 10 years of good hair, after that I’ll accept that I’m old and my looks have gone

Will you get good results from taking 0.5 mg every other day?

I don't know anyone who did it but Kevin Mann claims he's seen people get good results on a schedule like that.

Anecdotally I started with 1mg fin EOD for a year and it stabilized and regrew some so I'm assuming it will work for you. Now on 1mg daily to see if there's additional gains I can squeeze out because I tolerate the drug well.

That's good to know. I will try it at .5 every other day for a while then increase it to see if I get better results.

How do I make sure my hair never ends up like this?

Your hair and density seems to bad to keep it the currenty way. You need or use fin, minox and perhaps RU58441 and pray you are a good responder to have some kind of normal hairline or get a ht / hairsystem.

genetics stress diet
My dad has had like 10 years of stress and its only nw1 and has had a shit diet as well. I hope I have his hair genetics compared to my mothers side of the family. She's not bald or has been balding but her brothers have gone completely bald and even lost their eyebrows

I know with this hairline I'm -2psl points easy. I was thinking maybe HT without taking any meds(fin etc)

What do you think about scalp micropigmentation in this case? Will it look fake af?

Do you mean instead of saving your hair?

It always looks bad, I think micropigmentation could be useful for covering up FUE scars but that's about it. Candid pictures of it don't look good and if you are trying to pretend you have a good hairline your girl if she doesn't notice is going to want you to grow it out, except you have nothing to grow out.

I mean saving the hair and on top of it have the smp. I think I have good skull for the bald look but with hair is ALWAYS better.
