Should I switch from Tretinoin to Tazarotene?

I've been using Tretinoin for a few years now, mostly for anti-aging and for clear skin and recently I came across Tazarotene, a better retinoid than Tretinoin from what I read, as in it’s less irritant and it’s effective quicker. But since my face is already used to tretinoin (so no irritation) and I’ve used it for ages (so tretinoin effects should be kicked in), is it still worth making the switch?

ive switched from tret to taz on june 2025. before that i had been using tret regularly for some years

i used to have such dry and flakey skin. like my face would literally peel during the day. i remember if i wore a black shirt i could see all the tiny flakes of dead skin collecting

it was nasty and uncomfortable. when i switched to taz i almost never get any peeling and my face doesn’t sting when i apply it (unlike tret)

my skin seems to handle taz much better. most people would recommend it

Alright but is it better at preventing anti aging than tret?

they’re both good. i wouldn’t really assume one is better than the other. the most important thing for anti-aging is not the type of retinol you use, but the type of spf

you can never have true anti-aging unless you’re wearing spf every single day

I do

Do you have recommendations for good spf?

depends you looking for chemical or mineral sunscreen. for someone using retinol you need spf 50 pa+ minimum

the best resource i use to buy my sunscreens is this neat little website. it test each sunscreen using a machine that accurately mimics uv from the sun at different times of the day and at different seasons. they have an entire list of chemical, mineral, and other sunscreens each ranked at their effectiveness according to a test

My skin handled taz way better than tret

I dont get why retards think that accutane is some miracle for anti aging.

Had no benefits over tret in a 6 month clinical trial with the added downside of being a systemically active drug
Its use is acne dermal anti inflammation.

Probably no point if tret doesn’t cause irritation
Some get more irritation on taz

I’ve contacted some Indiamart sellers for taz cos tret dries my skin, but I haven’t bought any yet

Only a local area needs the benefit.

Outcome data is available to tell us its no better than topicals for the intended purpose.
Also less selective for the RAR receptors

Which is better? Or what’s the main tldr difference between them?
mineral forms a physical barrier and works immediately. good for sensitive skin

chemical doesn’t leave a white cast since it is designed to absorb uv rays not deflect them. can be slightly irritating

They're both retinoids so by getting used to tret you are also used to taz (it might still take a teenie little time to a adapt)

But lowkey i recommend to keep using Tretinoin, Taz is a modified retinoid it is mostly used for acne, Tret is retinoic acid itself so it has the complete spectrum of effects. Though in it's selected areas Taz is stronger yes.

Tazarotene is more potent. It is the newer generation of retinoid. If your skin can handle tretinoin, it will definitely be fine with tazarotene and it will give you better results.

As for SPF, my recommendation is always LRP Anthelios. This is because the bastards have patented the best UV filter in the world and so no other brand has it.

If you can then sure, but honestly you won't see a visible difference.

Just go for whichever one is easier to get.
