Absence of meaning makes sense only if there is meaning with which to compare it. And if there is meaning, absence of meaning is only relative, and thus ultimately metaphorical.
As CS Lewis said, if the universe were without meaning, we would never have been able to discover that it was meaningless.
Every single thing that we do as human beings has a meaning and is directed towards a goal. Since everything that we do has a meaning, and since everything we see in the universe works towards some goal, for an atheist to say that the world is meaningless shows just how silly atheism is.
Yes, that's the word for it. Not outrageous, although it may seem like that at times. And not illogical, although it may seem like that too.
