It’s been 3 months now since I started minoxidil. Within the first two weeks or so I started shedding far more than I ever have in the past.

Every day I shower, I dry my hair, then I put the minox in my hands and thoroughly massage it all over my scalp. Then I look at my hands. Every time they are covered in an amount of hair I’d never seen come out before minoxidil. This used to stress me out, but now I see it for what it is.

These are long, fully grown hairs that fell out because of minox. This means that in the next few months each one of these lost hairs is going to come back thicker and stronger than before. I’ve lost density because of this drug, but soon my hair will be denser than it was prior.

I’m responding to a very effective drug that many men don’t respond to. I’m a responder and I always will be. For the rest of my life, I can apply minoxidil and know it will give me denser, stronger, healthier hair. That’s a great feeling and well worth this shedding period.

Yes, this is completely normal, minox causes effluvium.

Just repeat that to yourself 2 times a day and it’ll help ease you into baldness much easier.

you probably won't always be a good responder tho. Pretty much everyone reports that minoxidil starts to lose efficacy at some point (some 2 years, some after 10) and you'll likely have more shedding phases throughout your journey. If the shed does ever become unbearable and you don't feel like you're progressing, look into reducing scalp inflammation.

The guy I linked below probably has some of the best results I've seen especially his temple regrowth and how he's been able to maintain his results for 12+ years. He seems to be one of the only guys that really addresses scalp inflammation/trying to maintain a healthy scalp environment. His position is that minoxidil only starts to lose it's efficacy when there are other underlying conditions causing hair loss like DHT/inflammation/allergic reactions. And that you have to address it from all angles

That's why you start at a low concentration and then increase it when it start to lose potency.

I guess that makes sense. I've seen some people say this has worked for them, but many others also say increasing the concentration didn't do much for them. If
