Can you derive the quadratic formula by yourself without the internet?

It's not difficult but I have a hunch that 99% of people cannot do this. many people will know the formula by heart, but they have no idea where the fuck it comes from. There is a gap in mathematical understanding here

Who needs math anyway, I was the best at math in school, even went to math competition and it didn't help me at all in life, I should have spent my teen years approaching and talking to girls instead of studying useless stuff like math, physics, chemistry, philosophy, literature, etc.

I think early math education is to blame. High school students are expected to move on to limits, derivatives and proofs without a very rigorous understanding of linear algebra.

What really annoyed me was that in order to study economics at university, they required me to do an A Level in maths, learning all kinds of formulae that I wasn't going to need

A lot of advanced math doesn't have real word applications( at least not yet, some concepts like imaginary numbers for example seemed pretty useless for a long time, until they found applications in quantum physics equations).
