You’d think skincare is easy to do, just rub some shit in your face and forget.
And to a degree you’d be right.
But,
Apparently some people think applying skincare is going to burn and that “thats just a part of it”.
Thats not quite right. if your skin is burning after you apply the serum/tret - you need to stop because your skin barrier is compromised.
I’m making this guide assuming you’ve done your research, so you should’ve atleast heard about the skin barrier, and you must know that it’s not good to compromise it.
I’ve been using tretinoin for a loong time now, and it took me months before i could use even 0,025% daily, without inflammation.
How to check if you have a compromised skin barrier?
* does a light touch to the face burn slightly?
* does it burn after applying your creams?
If yes; your barrier is compromised.
What to do next:
* Take a week off everything,
In this week you can moisturize, but not cleanse.
* Buy a balm- / oil cleanser for days when your skin is sensitive.
Reason: your main cleanser is hard on the skin, and contributes to inflammation. A light cleanser has prevented treatment remission (fx: pausing tretinoin use for a few days) many times for me.
* Make a calendar where you mark every day you’ve used tretinoin.
* Start taking said tretinoin every other day.
This step takes months, many months and patience, but it will be worth it, tretinoin was never a fast acting drug.
Your minimum time horizon for daily use tolerance should be 2-3 months. This is just my experience.
* Gradually increase tretinoin use to 2d and 1d, then 3d/1d, and so on.
There’s not much else to it. Protect your skin. You only have one face.
And to a degree you’d be right.
