This thread is dedicated to all fellow sleepcels. Everyone who struggles with sleep is welcome here, feel free to share experiences, I'll start. Also strategies, solutions, etc

Currently skipping uni so that I can readjust my schedule for a little while because my biological sleeping time lines up with daytime activity. I have 2 diagnosed sleep disorders - restless leg and delayed sleep onset (or something among those lines) - and essentially my natural sleeping time kicks in at around 6 in the morning, as opposed to at night like most people. It's tricky to adapt to.

Curious to see if anyone else here is a sleepcel

Interesting that it stayed that way. Maybe it was just a persistent habit as opposed to your actual chronotype then. Regardless, that's great. Having those kinda sleep issues can be very debilitating for day to day duties

Sleep is the easiest thing on earth. I just put my head down and 10 min later I'm in a deep sleep waking up after minimum 8 hours.
Sleep problems is when I have to wake up one time to pee in the middle of my sleep. Making me rage. But I get back to sleep again in 5 min.

I know that feel bro. Is it just insomnia? Being sedentary? Or more encompassing?

yeah. half of my summer was ruined because of it
waking up at 4pm, getting a few hrs of sunlight and then u spend the rest of ur day in darkness removes you from reality
also desperately trying to go to sleep at 6am even tho u know u wont be able to, and slowly feeling the sun coming up realizing youve been trying to go to sleep for hours

Sleepmirin tbh. Good to hear bro. I have to go through 10 different satanic rituals in order for me to induce even slight sleepiness in myself

Probably insomnia due to lack of inactivity. When ever I have too much time on my hands I tend to sleep late which ruins my sleep schedule which in turn distorts my circadian rhythm. If I sleep once at 3 am then I'll be sleeping like that for weeks.

Makes sense. It's why staying active is so important for sleep. Health stuff is holistic and connected to responsibilities also, it's all interconnected

I have a friend like you. He says that sometimes he's getting to bed and stay up all night while doing nothing and watch the sun coming out while having to wage slave. I once called him while he was asleep (didn't know) and that's the only thing that he could talk about for the whole day ''Bro honestly you ruined my sleep I couldn't get back''

That's fucked up honestly. I have these types of nights maby once a year and these are very memorable nights because it felt like hell. I mean, you have to sleep - but you can't. That's really fucked up. You can't do the most basic thing in order to feel ok.

Never thought about it much till people around me started talking about it. Now I'm feeling grateful tbh. It seems like most people have sleep problems to some degree. I'm really in the minority.

I see. How do you cope with it? Has it settled into a normalcy for you, or do you still actively dread it?
it got a bit lighter. i used to scream and run in my early teens. sometimes it happens once or twice in a month. i generally angrily shout something, happens when i am depressed generally.

actually i have sleep apnea too due to recessed jaw. sleep apnea can trigger various parasomnias.

i want to cope with jaw surgery and maybe medication if it doesnt get fixed

Yeah, I would agree with that, they're increasingly common. With most people though it comes down to very poor sleep hygiene, basically being on phones up until the very last moment of being awake etc. Maybe you practice good sleep hygiene and that helps ,or you just are very well adjusted in that regard and technology doesn't have that much of an impact on you, which would be truly rare

Hmm, I see. fair enough. i had no idea about those correlations between sleep apnea and parasomnias, that's interesting. I hope you can get it fixed however you can bro

Nah I sometimes eat heavily right before sleep. using my PC right before for hours. Scrolling on my phone. But there's that moment for me when I say ''Ok, now I'm going to sleep'' so I just close my eyes, I don't listen to anything or something like that. Closing my eyes, not resisting any thoughts or something like that, wait for 10 min and there you go I can sleep like that easily for 12 hours.

All those rituals that people do like taking Showers, Candles, ASMR, Tea, Supplements. That's kind of building up too much pressure. You start to think about sleep like this big big thing that you have to do 20 things before you can just put your head down.

Yeah I get it it's like a healthy person telling a guy with a chronic back pain that he shouldn't take pills or think about it too much.
But idk, doing these rituals would probably fuck with my head and make it harder for me to sleep because now I think ''It's working? it's working? would it work? yo, I did that thing - should I do X too?''

I just put my head down, close my eyes. And that's it I don't ''expect' anything because I just know how it works. I don't say don't do anything in order to fix your sleep but I'm saying that you should watch out from too much preparation and rituals since you're making it a bigger deal in your head and your mind is on the defense.

Honestly my opinion is worthless since I don't suffer from it. But you'd know if this post had some benefit or something is true.

You're right, ascribing more mental energy to something causes more pressure and expectations around it. It's good advice in regards to sleep issues, many of which are psychological. Sadly tho mine are related to chronotype, which is basically biologically hardwired. My mother's line has it all the way, we are all night owls that sleep little. But ye, appreciate it regardless

The mother of my friend has sleep problems as well. My parents sleep well. It might be all genetics and the rituals are either damaging or placebo unless you sleep in a mini hell and change to a nice place. Drugs would help of course but there's a price to pay and the worst is that you can't rely on them. My friend sometimes eat edibles (marijuana) and he says it's knocking him the fuck out.

Your tried edibles? oil? vaping? smoking?

idk the reason but I can sleep for 13 hours and still feel exhausted

Check your Iron levels, B12, Folic acid. It doesn't matter how much you sleep if you have anemia of any kind (B12 induced, lack of Iron, lack of folic acid)

Sometimes my body will wreck me and not let me fall asleep. I've been trying to wake up at 6am consistently, so that has required a few changes if I want to have healthy amount of sleep.

1. Set blue light filters on my devices after 10pm.
2. Avoid this website or any discussion forums. When you try to sleep, your brain needs to wind down.
3. In general don't use internet before bed time. Some videos and movies are fine as long as they're going to wind you down.
4. I try to read an hour before bed time instead. This usually gets me ready to sleep.
5. No sugar or coffee before bed time. I drink a lot of coffee and sometimes it won't affect me, I've had a cup 1h before sleeping. I'm cutting down caffeine now, so that will probably change.
6. I try cold showers in the morning to wake up and feel alert and warm ones in the evening to relax. Although I've found that the slight shock from a cold shower also has a good effect.
7. Have a tidy room before sleeping and make your bed. Change your sheets regularly as stinky sheets are gross.
8. No alcohol before bed time. I cut out 99% of drinking from my life, but this might apply to some people.
9. Make sure your room has enough fresh air before bed time by keeping the window open when you're out. I prefer to sleep in a slightly cold room with a warm blanket.
10. I had congested nose earlier this year and some issues with sinuses, and I found that anti snoring strips helped me sleep better as I got more air intake. I have issues with my septum, so my breathing can be disrupted.

My sleeping is fucked because of uni, I can't sleep well anymore because of all the anxiety.

I'm gonna wake up at 10 a.m., it's 5:46 a.m. now and I can't sleep.
