Sleeping while awake

I was always curious if could just laying down for hours without being in the sleep state take away tiredness and fill my energy up too.
When I was very tired and couldn’t sleep at all,the tiredness still got away,but sometimes kind of came back later on the day.
What do you think about sleeping while being conscious?

It would be cool, like how those elves in D&D go into a trance for 4 hours and it's the same as another race sleeping for 8 hours.
