Sliding Genioplasty diary: Day of operation

Showed up 7 am surgery started at around 8 am. I was out of there at 9:30 am and back at my Airbnb. I did it under twilight sedation not general anesthesia.

Pain was zero at first cuz of numbing agents etc. but very numb hard to talk etc. but nothing above my lower lip felt affected at all.

Back at Airbnb felt very mobile, like completely normal functioning person aside from not being able to talk or move my mouth. Spent some time looking in the mirror. I think I’m gonna like the results. I believe it was only a 7 or 8 mm advancement with 1 mm vertical shortening.

Been just in and out of sleep all day watching random shit on my laptop. Was able to eat some yogurt and a green drink.

Pain slowly increased to a point where it kinda feels like how your teeth feel when you tighten your braces except in the chin and not in the teeth. If unfamiliar with that feeling it kinda feels like maybe you got punched in the chin pretty hard. It’s a full even spread pain nothing too sharp or extreme.

The worst pain and swelling is actually my neck area under the mandible. It’s swollen so it looks like I have a double chin. But swelling is still very minimal bearing 10 hours post op. Almost no swelling in my cheeks, all isolated to chin and neck. Most pain is when I swallow cuz it flexes those neck muscles. Sure this has to do with the fact that these tissues are stretched.

Took an oxycodone and was all good. Oxy is worn off now and pain is still not bad. Will probably do aspirin instead and save the oxy.

Teeth already gained sensation back 100%.
Tongue sensation 100%.
Bottom lip sensation 0-5%
Chin sensation 0-5%

7 or 8mm is quite a lot difference actually, I had 6mm with my wraparound implant but was too much and now I am going with just 4mm.
Was your chin too recessed?

My chin was recessed but not like so recessed I’d need bsso.

If you don’t mind me asking which surgeon did you choose? How expensive was it? Did insurance cover it? How did you determine how many mms you need? Why did you vertically shorten the chin?
