Question: why are weak chins considered unattractive?

Because of racist and sexist standards that are also tied up with ableism. I’m not sure we can separate what humans as animals truly want compared to what they have been taught to believe is attractive by the culture they live in.

An overbite, or “weak” chin is considered less attractive because society thinks a big square jaw is more attractive—some populations with big square jaws are also more muscular, so people associate one with the other. Add on to that the issue that there is a portion of society that values male supremacy, and male supremacy based on physical violence, and that promotes a muscled male body as more valuable or intimidating. I don’t think this is good, but this might be were this association comes from. Male domination>male strength>male muscles>big jaw>ideal of hotness.

It’s true that testosterone can make you keep more muscle easily, and makes the bony parts of your face more prominent—the brow, cheekbones, and chin, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a person without these prominent features has less testosterone or is less manful or attractive.

Fact is, there are a lot of people out there who are in touch with their authentic feelings and find those with overbites very cute and attractive, even if they recognize it is outside the accepted cartoon ideal of hotness. So nothing is universal, even if one thing is more celebrated.
