Young men who were disaffected were pushed off to war to die a heroic death. The victorious who reemerged from battle were now indomitable and could reintegrate back into society. Men were to die and rise again like a phoenix, not "treated" like a convalascent. Schizophrenics became shamans and the truly psychotic ones were made a pariah and lived a life in integration with the forest. Nowhere in history were men seen as stricken from some disease or the other and given resources to give them the 1 percent chance of becoming "normal" again. War was the great cleanser and the good king held wars for its own sake every year in Vedic India. Not for barbarism or conquest but to function as a social tool that young men can use to test their wills or enter valhalla. "A kshatriya who lives beyond 18 brings dishonour upon the family". All this of course will be rationalised as some evolutionary tool to impress better genetic offspring by the moderns, but the entire rationale behind it was based on the cult of the sky father and not the worship of the yoni which only existed amongst primitives who were worshipping only of the earth mother.
