Software is ideal for people that don't want to dedicate their lives to their work.

When someone becomes a doctor or a lawyer, that's their life. They invest so much time into getting there and then their entire life revolves around that until they die. I have multiple family members that are full fledged doctors and it seems so depressing. My anesthesiologist uncle betabuxes for his designer-clothing obsessed wife that only gives him pity sex and wastes his money. I have an older cousin that just took his MCAT and is having huge doubts about medical school after I blackpilled him on how shitty the career is, now he's trying to become a compscicel like me.

Whereas in software you have plenty of WFH opportunities and unlimited vacation time. It's extremely easy to take a few months off with no work on a whim then go find another equally prestigious job, and you're wrong to say software doesn't scale well. Senior software engineers make bank and people often get promoted from junior to senior after 1-2 years.

This isn't even mentioning the SHEER AMOUNT of schooling a lawyer or doctor must go through along with the rigorous testing. That's many years of their lives spent reading books spending a fuck ton of money in law/med school preparing for exams. Meanwhile the software engineer is stacking 6 figure paychecks for all those years, building their wealth.

Law/medicine is the best way to fast track yourself to alcoholism and an early death from stress.
I wouldn't recommend CS for everyone though, not everyone is built for this type of thinking and many people get weeded out of classes early on.
Plus this is the best career path if you want to become self-employed.

STOP THINKING ABOUT YOUR CAREER IN TERMS OF SOCIAL OPPORTUNITIES/HOW MANY WOMEN WILL BE THERE. THIS IS RETARDED AND YOU'RE SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT.

Been there done that and it made me legit suicidal bc I felt like I failed my parents and was a loser. My mom literally told me her older brother was a loser and that if I ever ended up like him she'll never speak to me again. :ROFLMAO:

Besides I need MONEY. I NEED MONEY FOR MY SURGERIES AND TO BUY A NICE HOME. I wanna retire early.

Yeah some gigs the work load is low too so you can fuck around a lot of the day or lift when you are supposed to be working, etc.

Yes, the best part is how you can do it all remotely. JFL at trying that when you are doing law(country/province dependent) and health (having to stay near a hospital and putting yourself at risk, especially when you have to do a 3 year residency)

I make over 100k in my sisters basement writing scripts a monkey could write.

Yes bro I agree.

-I expect a good salary since I'm going to a top uni + already have a FAANG internship lined up after the first year
-I need a job that allows me to work remote cause I want to travel a lot
-I need a job that doesn't devour my life, apparently some SWEs legit work for 3 hours a day JFL. More time to analyze my face and plan cosmetic procedures :feelshah:
-I need a job where I can easily take time off for surgeries.

SWE is perfect for all of this until I find a passive income source that allows me to not work at all.

Same I want to get LL so a remote work job would be ideal for me

Software is just a copium profession that people circlejerk far too much. See the post I just made about medicine VS SWE. For reference, I’m an FAANG SWE currently. You don’t really make as much money as people on Internet forums have you believe because the cost of living where the best jobs are located are astronomical.

Some BS myths and copes that I want to dispel right now:

1. Working fully remotely: No. these jobs don't pay as high and they are already getting outsourced. Why would they pay an American 3-5x as much when they can just hire a smarter and harder working Indian overseas for cheaper? You're really overvaluing yourself if you think you're that important and skilled. Fully remote jobs are prone to outsourcing.

2. Work only a few hours per week: again, wrong. There's a reason that the so called high paying jobs pay that way. You're going to be expected to provide value and output relative to what they are paying you. No employer is going to pay you $200k+ to barely do any work. Though I suppose internet people love to parrot this.

3. Low status career: being a software engineer is not prestigious and there is no status halo. I've ever had girl's tell me "please don't tell me you work in tech" or "please don't tell me you're an engineer." In fact, I changed my profession to "doctor" on dating apps and got much more matches. I started to tell people at bars that im a doctor just as a social experiment and I got much more respect than when I said engineer. Engineers are seen as nerdy and socially inept types. It's the modern day coal miner.

4. Shitty coworkers and no hot women in the field: have you ever worked at a software or tech company that has attractive women? Both medicine and law have attractive women working there. Several of my friend's are doctors and there is a surprising amount of attractive women that mog any engineer in terms of social skills and overall intelligence.

5. Medicine has you working less hour's than SWE: yeah you heard me right. Most doctor's in a good specialty only work 4 days a week OR they can work any 15 days out of the month and have the rest of the month off. Either that or you can do 1 week on 1 week off. Tons of flexibility, Better than muh wfh.
Overall SWE is an ok career but nothing amazing. Def is glorified way too much online when it's honestly just a profession for socially inept nerds. I'm probably going to honestly leave this field and go study medicine soon.

So you're going to study for 6-10 years after having established yourself in a high paying tech job just to make the same salary(200k) or maybe slightly higher after 3-5 years? That's 9-15 years before you see any returns son.

go first year to nursing to slay women then switch to a better career

Average doc works 55 hours a week while average SWE works 40 hours a week.

We aren’t comparing Average SWE because Average SWE makes significantly less money than any doctor or even below six figures for that matter. Know plenty of people making around 90k.

Not sure which doctor's you're talking about here. The vast majority of primary care docs work 40 hour's per week or barely above lol. Don't even make me compare specialities like Derm or Radiology because they work less than 40 hous often times. It wouldn't even a contest.

Not comparing salaries, comparing work hours. Yeah doctors make a lot more but they have to study for a lot longer and work longer hours later. When you reach the FAANG tier in SWE the difference between med and swe more or less cancels out salary wise.

Every two years, The Physicians Foundation has published their Survey of American Physicians. This is a broad survey that gets sent to every physician with an E-Mail address on record with the American Medical Associated. In 2018 a total of 8,774 survey responses responded, sharing details about their practice patterns. Including how many hours they work.

According to the results, the majority of doctors work anywhere from 41-60 hours per week with the average doctor working ~51.40 hours per week. You can see the exact 2018 results recreated here:

Doctors work for longer hours, and higher paid doctors work for even longer 70-90 hour weeks. This is well known I'm not sure where you got the idea that docs don't work as long as SWE's.

FAANG and similiar engineers work less hours than high paid doctors, like 45-60 hours compared to 60+ hours. They get paid nearly as much, probably slightly less, while studying for 4 years instead of 10 years before they can get a practicing license

@Xangsane aren't you a med student tell him smth

This is mostly an american phenomena tbh, engineer salaries are solidly upper middle class in the UK but you won't get rich doing it like you seem to be able to in the US.

Depending on the placement rotation, we're either put to work on a typical 9 to 5 (it could be 8 to 4), a longer shift lasting 9am till 9pm, a night shift that lasts the entire evening and early morning, or weekend shifts. I usually feel very tired after postgrad training and I'm fortunate to only live a 5 minute drive away from my work site.

Usually it's 48 hours a week depending on what's on offer on the wards that week and what speciality rotation we're on.

And how many hours do you expect to do when you're a full doctor?

GP: 40
Surgeon: 50 or 60

It could be more depending on the week

It's against the law to work over 72 hours per week.

You all forget that almost every curry is a software engineer and it doesn’t hold a lick of prestige or social status halo like medicine or law has. That’s important as well.

Software doesnt offer status

Thank you. I sometimes post on here during breaks in between bleeps or in the mess when I need escapism.
@Biggdink @looksmaxxer234 look at this lying dog.
he "has" an 8 hours doc job and only posts here "sometimes" during breaks.

Our shifts can be at any time, it's not fixed. I live 5 minutes from my workplace and after work I shower and crash out because I'm so tired. I browse looksmax in bed.
