i noticed in school as a kid that a lot of kids would just wait for the teacher to explain how to do the next exercise instead of just reading the instructions from the textbook. this wasn't laziness or an excuse to chat but some weird mental block though cuz they'd all pay attention to her explanations. it was a sorta learned helplessness - they could read it themselves and save some time, get thru the work quicker, but they were used to relying on the teacher to explain
so many women have this exact same shit with their boyfriends. presumably they must be able to read and problem-solve for themselves, because they spend much of their time alone, but then with you they're asking what to do or where to go or (more often) just quietly standing there and waiting to follow your lead, and you literally only know because you read the sign right in front of you that explained it. it's even more comical for me because i don't speak the local language - my gf literally relies on me getting my information from signs *in her language* instead of reading it herself. sometimes i get frustrated and point at the sign like "READ"
had a similar thing w my sister too where she suggested we go somewhere and i started walking there w her - only after 10 mins to realise we were going the wrong way because she thought she was following me and i thought i was following her. but why would i be leading when she suggested a place she knew??? most women just *cannot* take the lead when they're with a man in public
tbh i said "some" in the title but i think it's more like 80% are strongly like this and then 20% with v strong personalities are only somewhat like this.
