someone explains to me what MSE consists of and what a class 2 would benefit from

MSE expands the midface, the maxilla.

In class II patients it only has a real use if, after expansion, the mandible is going to be surgically advanced.
I personally like to do MSE + IMDO, it’s a winning combination

can shorten a medium long face?

I have the same support under the eyes as this photo, I have good cheekbones but my jaw is horrible and I would give a profile like this?

Who knows? I think you should post your photographs but... again. MSE is just a maxilla expander, a very good one, but that's it.

If you have a small lower jaw MSE is not going to correct that.

If you have a maxilla with an excessive vertical growth MSE is not going to correct that, even if used with other devices.

Think of MSE as a very good substitute (if it works) for a SARME (aka SARPE).

Why wouldn't facepulling etc be able to shorten a maxilla when it pulls it upward and forward like this? Even if we're just talking about bone like this and correcting soft tissue after (nose etc)

I'm sure that pulling maxilla upward give you better under eye support, just see where zygos is places

You that’s a computer simulation don’t you? Based on human introduced data.

in the same article where that image is shown you’ll see the actual result.

I’m telling you: MSE device won’t reduce any vertical excess at all. But it’s up to you to decide wether to believe me or not.

What else could reduce vertical access for Aesthetic purposes? Lefort?
