Maybe there’s some secret. I thought I was 100% white but I got asked if I was part black, Latino, Native sometimes. And then I found out later in life my grandma was 1/4 black (Haitian). Looking back it was obvious because she had dark features and kinky hair. But it’s like my mom was embarrassed because of Haiti’s reputation.

What’s weird is I’m the only one in my family like this, all the women in my family look very Nordic or Irish/British. People always think my sister is my girlfriend. So my theory that mixed women come out looking lighter than mixed men.
