Im currently watching “perks of being a wall flower” to relive my jb years since i peaked in high school and something i noticed is that in all movies with a sympathetic character, they always cast some attractive ahh nigga and just give him a slightly nerdy haircut or glasses.
Like im 10 minutes in and this nigga is acting all shy and nerdy loner with no friends, meanwhile hes a decent looking cutecel (no homo). It just takes away from the immrsion completely
If this was realistic he would have a recessed chin, acne, no bones, sub-5.
Directors know if they cast a actually unattractive guy, suddenly the audience wont feel sympathetic for the MC anymore. Which is super ironic. Its truly brutal when you notice in media the only way the director trusts the audience to make assumptions about someones character is by making sure they meet the looks threshold. For example in the show “adolescence” the main boy stabs a girl to death was cast as a cutecel white boy. Meanwhile the real case was actually a sub-5 chopped black guy. Director knew he’d get no sympathy if he was cast accurately.
