...and then you come to some sort of a conclusion or form a thesis, BUT THEN you realize you have actually heard that take before so you wonder if you've just been conditioned completely and castrated your mind or if you just formed that same idea on your own and then you ask yourself if you even think or if you only have the impression that you think and then you open org and post your bullshit ramblings.

I think on an intellectual level humans are idiot savants in that our greatest strength is pattern recognition, pure logic has been cut out by evolution in favour of something which is able to leapfrog it's way into discovery without full understanding. Our consciousness operates much closer to an LLM or modern AI (genuinely closer to chatgpt than an actual thinking AGI) than we'd like to imagine, everything we think of is synthesising other ideas we've already been exposed to by basically running through our instinctual "reactions" and "thoughts" to it which are sourced by pattern recognition. Logic is only a tool that we exercise and use to our own ends, it is never the source of our thoughts.

Additionally I think that we are incredibly, almost purely emotional thinkers. Emotions come first and they come naturally in every facet of our lives, you may think that you are able to see the truth by virtue of your own "open-mindedness" or willingness to learn and adapt but the fact is that we have been naturally conditioned in a similar way that every society in human history has, and we are unable to remove ourselves from this programming. Every taboo and value that we hold is further enforced, strengthened and codified by our own emotional responses to them, it's the ultimate feedback loop and the heart of conformity. When you attempt to discard conformity you also discard your humanity because your own emotions are innately tied up in these ideas.

Our entire knowledge base as people is basically an aggregate of accepted narratives and practiced deference. In every aspect of your life you intellectually defer to other people and their ideas because you ultimately believe in the results, you don't have to and instinctually are not driven to understand society in it's full complexity but through pattern recognition you build on your own ziggurat of assumed understanding and truth. Our entire perception of the world is built on faith, we worship what we most believe in. I think we are innately delusional for this reason, as I've said earlier evolution has foregone logic in the favour of leapfrogging into more complexity with less energy. We are simulacrums of intelligence that are able to advance onto concepts beyond our own processing power by accepting truths and half-truths and instinctually learning not to question them, only to replace them when a better narrative presents itself. Critical thinking is not some kind of mark that divided the intellectual haves and the have-nots. Critical thinking by instinct is mental illness because it is the act of chasing one's own tail at the expense of time and energy. Critical thinking has to be intentional, and it is completely unsustainable to constantly question and maintain this "vigil" because we as humans are uncritical thinkers.

In many ways, the act of intellectualising something is akin to justifying what your brain has already settled on as personal truth. 99% of the time you form an opinion and then proceed to write a comment or form an argument to back up that near instantaneous visceral reaction. I went on this whole tangent because I read the post and wanted to express my perception that original thoughts do not exist and our brains are built upon a network of pattern recognition, often synthesising ideas but also paying deference to whatever narrative we have already accepted as truth, because human thought at it's core is driven by belief rather than logic (which acts as a tool). I think for this reason, practically every idea that we are fascinated by and want to explore are narratives that we have already innately accepted as truth or possibly truthful, these are blocks that you don't know where to fit into the ziggurat but you know that they do fit. You write entire essays and messages thinking that something is your idea because it is your obsession (finally getting to the actual post I know), and at this point I've run out of things to say.

What the fuck am I even doing with my time at this point, log on to this site every 2 weeks to post some essay built from repressed elements of my psyche, obsessions that I haven't had the opportunity to elaborate on. I swear I'd want to be an author if I wasn't so lazy.

If we normalize all ideas everyone has ever thought in history into one medium there's probably like 100 actual "new" thoughts being generated collectively worldwide
