Well, you know there are many ways, you should study what other gurus did before you and copy their strategy. You could start holding meditation or yoga classes, become an astrologer, fortune teller, etc., there are many ways, really.... Joining several cults to see how they work from inside and what the gurus actually do, how they act and talk is also a good idea, many used this method - they were first part of a group, then went on their own way and created their own organization.
The Internet also allows you now to easily spread your wisdom to the masses, you can start a blog, vlog, Youtube channel, offer courses about spiritual stuff, but the thing is it's starting to get crowded, there are even now 14-15-year-old kids or e-girls acting like gurus and talking about enlightenment & stuff.

I think it's an interesting idea and I should try it. On a related note, my cousin met his wife at church, and he is the only Chinese guy I personally know who has an attractive white wife. It might not be a bad idea to become a religious man and gain social status and use the status to get girls.
