I’m starting Reta in like 2 days and the starting dose doesn’t make sense I’ve read .5 to 1mg but see others starting at like fucking 3 what’s a good base-line to start at?

Depends on how much food noise you have, how fat you are, and how people feel side effects, it can treat different people differently, also pm me your source.
Tl;Dr if you want to lose weight quick and don't mind side effects ~mild nausea and headaches start on 2 or 3, but you can just titrate from 0.5
