Its usually a long period of being low status before you have sudden growth.
When people see how you are treated by other people, they start to also treat you with respect.
The more status you have, the faster it grows, because people are sheep and will respect someone they know nothing about, as long as other people respect him first.

Ive seen it all throughout my life:
In school in my first year i was being disrespected by a guy because he thought i wasnt popular. A couple months/years latwr when i was socialmaxxed the switchup from him was crazy, he would start trying to be best friends with me and telling other people we were friends meanwhile id just bully him.

Even look at .org. When i joined i got a lot of hate because i wasnt very popular yet. As i became more well known and more users liked me, i started becoming loved by the forum. This is because theres more social cost to hate me now since it might make other people dislike you.

What's even more interesting is that one, or a few outliers pull up the average of an entire subculture or arena.

For example you take the total number of .org Moderators and run a test to see what their average universal status is.

Well there's like 7 mods or something, and one of them is Clav.

You're essentially taking Clavs status, plus the other mods (who I adore btw) (but this is for clarity/emphasis purposes), and dividing by 7. The average is totally irrepresentative because one outlier pulled up the mean/average so hard. That the whole point of using the "average" makes no sense under the same game.


Now take Clav's height. And just use the 7 mods again. He ain't pulling up the average height. Because height itself is a bell-curve.

Wealth, status, social class are dynamic games under random multiplicative dynamics where averages are irrepresentative of what the "average" person in the game experiences. They are non ergodic games, where payoffs are asymmetric and non-linear. That is exactly why protecting your base is more important than chasing rewards if you're risking so much that hitting an absorbing state is a possibility.

Lose your reputation, your money, your hair, etc. And you are starting the multiplicative process from an ENTIRELY different STATE.

So protect the state, protect what generates your compounding.

Very interesting point, i never thought about it consciously, but i definitely think that i knew it intuitively. Because that kid who tried to be friends with me after showing his true character to be ‘herd minded’, the only reason i was so harsh to him afterwards was because i saw him as untrustworthy. I saw exactly how he switched up on me after he saw i had status so i bullied him.

Loyalty is cheap when you're at the top, the only real test of character is whether someone thinks for themselves when the mob is against you. I agree
