But they hardly add any height compared to lifts.

Even stacking them wouldn’t work well because you need just heel elevation to not be limited by the height of the front part of the shoe, and regardless, it will look as weird as lifts if the footbed is so raised. You can just put lifts under the shoe insole, and/or a layer of these comfort ones. If the lifts are small this makes them very hard to detect.
