understanding history is about being a good judge of what is bullshit or not. some people will be led astray by marxist imaginings, while the smart ones will focus on cross referencing data to arrive at the truth, understanding different author's motivations, the context in which the work was written, etc. i agree that most state sponsored academic texts are biased misinformation on all the most contentious topics. but in general, there are widely agreed upon facts in history
