People select for genetic markers, not actual genetics. If you augment these markers you become ‘attractive’.

Your brain recognises someone as attractive because it deems the person of good genetic health based largely on facial indicators & partly body anatomy.

Your brain also does the same with food. Regardless of how it tastes, a well presented bird poop looks more appetising than a terribly presented pizza.

every single oneitis i've ever had has a dad that is fat and bald and a mom that used to be a HTB/MTB

The idea is regression to the mean. Extremely ugly or beautiful people are unlikely they to produce an uglier or better looking child than they are.
