No one knew what "BLACKED" or "BBC" was in 2008.

I'll give you that it was a fairly fast narrative and value shift.

But the internet is capable of shifting values and beliefs much faster than before, with how much time people spend online, and how little human to human contact most people have.

Take the atheism shift in America which was largely driven by the internet. This was an emergent phenomenon of regular people asking questions and poking holes in religion. The ultimate morale value fueling this phenomenon was that you are "morally superior" if what you believe is true, and if you seek the truth.

Then we had the Iraq war, which was fulled by the "moral value" that you are "moral" if you stand up and defend the lives of Americans.

Then after the public finally came around to realizing that the war was fuled by the military industrial complex, and the Petro dollar, the narrative started shifting again. People realized that their fear of "the other" had been used to fund what they now viewed as "unjust" conflict with people who had darker skin. (This was the start of what we see today).

Next the narrative shifted towards women who were abused in hollywood. With the internet, hollywood could no longer suppress this narrative.

All of this set the cultural, belief, and value ground work for the narrative to start shifting towards black people being oppressed. The media needed a new victim, because people were starting to get bored of women being a victim, and there was a limited supply of cases.

People also had fried attention spans at this point, so it was very easy for the media to omit facts and lie, to have whatever narrative they wanted, so long as their were enough source stories with video/pictures that could be twisted to fit the desired narrative.

They found their perfect victim in our own back yard, black people. There was always black people involved in violent confrontation, and plenty of cameras in the U.S., so plenty of footage of black people getting hurt.

At this point, white people weren't made the victims because of the public's growing sympathies for those who were less well off (Fueled by the middle eastern wars of aggression, and previous women as victims of white men).

This was all a slow gradual ramping up of white men as the villians of the media narratives. No single media outlet, or social media group can start a narrative. It only sticks if it fit's with the existing narrative, or is the next logical step in that narrative's evolution.

I know they are all owned by the same companies, but if they push narratives that don't maximize profit, they will get out competed. Online, it takes very little resources to start a competing media outlet and compete with large companies.
