If the age of consent was 16 (or 18), and all underage sex was banned and made illegal, it would arguably make sense. However, this is not the way it is. The way the current system is set up is that horny teenagers are put in a stressful environment put next to each other, where they have no outlets to relieve their sex drives except with each other. The law allows teens to have sex with each other at a close age, which basically guarantees that girls will lose their virginity to some fuckboy who they will not stay with long term.
Now, you might think, "how does this harm children, they're being protected from adults?" Well, the truth is, that the "first love" is supposed to be the strongest, especially for women, and as well all know a higher % of girls lose their virginity than boys before age 18. When the girl eventually meets her husband, she is unable to pair bond because she got pumped and dumped by a double digit amount of Chads before him.
So, by forbidding a young girl to mate with her husband at a young age, and instead coercing her into fucking around, unstable marriages are created, which are much more likely to fail. And what happens to children who grow up in single parent households?
So, are these age of consent laws combined with Romeo and Juliet laws truly helping children, or hurting them? I think we know the answer
