Basically there was zero reason for Ukraine to join NATO, Russia only wanted for Ukraine to be neutral and a buffer between them and NATO. The USA gave false hopes to Ukraine that they should join NATO over the years and in the USA supported coup in 2014 they removed the elected neutral Ukrainian president in favor of a NATO inclined one.

Ukraine always perfectly kept the balance because it is a huge country separating NATO and Russia, because the largest NATO bases in the EU currently are in Germany and Poland. If Ukraine joined NATO then they would build a huge NATO base right of the front yard of Moscow, and this is extremely bad geopolitical defeat for Russia, they would be completely isolated

There are a shit ton of other reasons why Ukraine is very important for Russia to remain Russia oriented or neutral at worst, but to TLDR it: rich ores, gas pipelines, historical cultural ties, warm ports Russia lacks etc.

Putin didn't divide the slavic peoples, in my opinion it was the West that did that. Their clear violations of the agreements of NATO expansion not going further than Germany are the reason for this war as well as the Georgian war.

The West (specifically the leaders of the NATO alliance) is almost entirely to blame for this.

I think Ukraine will be annexed and a puppet president will be installed. The West's reluctance to respond may cause some Eastern European pro-Western countries to break away from the West and lean closer to Russia, maybe even joining CSTO in the process.

Way to many reasons, but it all surrounds itself around Ukraine being the real heart of Russia during its existence, the whole premise by Putin is the extreme mistake that communist gave Ukraine their own country in the USSR.

Historicaly Ukraine was the buffer zone where Russia halted their enemies, it was the place where all biggest battles have been fought and won or lost by Russia. It would be a huge symbolic blow to Russia for Ukraine to be eternally lost to the West.

Its like if Texas somehow becomes independent and 30 years later tries to make alience with China, it would be an incredible moral and historical defeat to the USA, utter humiliation

No, Russia has shit ton of this in THE PERMAFROST, they can't mine there properly at all, Ukraine on the other hand is ideal, the east has been discovered to have vital ores important for modern tech similar to the ones in the perma frost. And about the gas lines, if Ukraine joins the west then prices of gas will be bargained for higher by the US given they pass through Ukraine and it will weaken the Russian economy.
