Are you dry swallowing it? If you're using a liquid think of it as flowing with the water, it's fine if it feels awkward but you just gotta let if low with the water. Feel free to cough after.

im not dry swallowing but for some reason my throat seems to just close up when i try. It is the worst with those large cod liver oil tablets.

Yeah larger pills fucking suck, whenever I struggle with any of this stuff I just focus on my goals. The gag reflex will die down over time, be strong!

Put the pill(s) in your mouth and just start chugging water. Some people are not able to swallow pills easily, its common.
